GREENSMITH GEARED UP FOR MONTE

Gus Greensmith is geared up for the opening round of the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship at next week’s Rallye Monte-Carlo. Teaming up with new co-driver Elliott Edmondson in an M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Ford Fiesta R5, the pairing will battle for victory in the new WRC 2 Pro class.

Greensmith got his first taste of Rallye Monte-Carlo last year – learning the unique nature of the legendary event behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R2. Despite being forced to retire with a mechanical issue, the Brit held his own against a strong local field and showed stage-winning pace – something he’ll be keen to replicate when making his four-wheel-drive Monte debut next week.

Gus Greensmith said:

“The conditions at Rallye Monte-Carlo are so unpredictable and you have to be very aware and focused to pull together a winning performance. It’s crazy. One second it’s dry and the next it’s full snow! And the thrill of driving on snow with a Tarmac set-up is second to none!

“A win in Monte is something that every driver wants to achieve, and we’ll be pushing towards that goal.  I’ve got a good feeling for the rally, and just need to bring it all together next week.”

Team Principal, Richard Millener, said:

“Rallye Monte-Carlo is one of those events where experience and confidence count for a lot. Gus is a little on the back foot as he contested the event for the first time with a two-wheel-drive Fiesta R2 last year. But he certainly has the ambition and determination to do well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a strong performance from him.

“He has the pace, and is developing a consistency that will work in his favour next week. If he can pull everything together there’s no reason why he can’t challenge for the top results in the inaugural round of this exciting new WRC 2 Pro Championship – a result that all of the competitors will be after.”
