RED BULL ALPHATAURI AF CORSE TEAM TARGET DTM VICTORY AGAIN AT LAUSITZRING CIRCUIT.

After the successful start to the 2021 DTM season in Monza, the Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse team and its drivers Alex Albon (THA) and Liam Lawson (NZL) can now look forward to the Lausitzring circuit in Germany for the second race weekend.

Here is all you need to know:

  • A spectacular banked corner and fans in the stands await the two drivers this weekend at the German track with New Zealander Lawson heading into the second of this season’s eight DTM race weekends lying second overall in the #30 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, sporting the Red Bull livery.
  • Lawson has 27 points, after winning the season opener around the iconic Monza circuit in Italy – also his first ever DTM race – and qualifying second for race two. His dream start meant that he became the youngest race winner in the history of the series, at just 19 years and 128 days.
  • Albon lines up in the #23 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 – in the colours of Red Bull’s premium fashion brand AlphaTauri – with the Thai driver fifth in the DTM standings ahead of the second race weekend. The 25-year-old finished fourth and seventh in his first two races, earning him 18 points.
  • Spectators will be permitted at the Lausitzring for the first time this season and, in line with COVID-19 regulations, the stands can be occupied to one third of their capacity on both race days.
  • When the DTM field lines up at the Lausitzring – located between Berlin and Dresden, and opened in 2000 – it will race for the very first time on a 4.562-kilometre layout, including the banked Turn 1.
  • Where the drivers would previously have braked and turned left into a twisty infield section, now they will stay at full throttle at the end of the start-finish straight.
  • Turn 1 is a 300-metre left-hander in the circuit’s tri-oval with a banking of almost six degrees. As the new layout was not used in the official tests at the start of May, drivers will be provided with an optional 40-minute track test on Friday to familiarise themselves with the new conditions.
  • Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse Team Manager Andrea Guidotti said: “We’re really excited about running on this track config, it should be a great show for the fans. We will have a really short time to adapt to it, but we will try to make the best use of our Daytona experience.”
  • Albon said: “This will be an interesting challenge. We will need to adapt quickly on the Friday to be ready for the first qualifying on Saturday. I can’t wait to do so.”
  • Lawson said: “The Lausitzring is a track I have raced on twice before already. It’s a very tight, technical track, especially now with the oval it will be a great challenge. It will definitely be difficult to overtake, so I hope we will have some decent racing and our pace is good. It would be great to have another solid weekend in the points.”
